Our Takamura Knife Collection

The Takamura lineup, anchored by the renowned R2 and Chromax series, represents some of the finest Japanese knives available. Choose from a range of styles, including petty, santoku and gyuto, in blade lengths from 5.1" to 8.2" to suit any task or preference.

Takamura Chromax

Takamura Chromax knives are crafted from semi-stainless Chromax steel, offering a unique balance of performance and durability. The Takamura Chromax Santoku, a popular kitchen knife, features a Chromium content of 5%, making it more corrosion-resistant than other steel blends. The stainless cladding ensures low maintenance, while the hardened core, reaching an impressive 64-65 HRC, provides exceptional edge retention. Perfect for those seeking a knife that combines the sharpness of high-carbon steel with the ease of maintenance, Takamura Chromax knives, including the Santoku, are top choices for both professional chefs and home cooks.

Takamura R2

R2 knives are built for demanding professional use. Premium R2 powdered steel delivers extreme hardness and long-lasting edge retention, while ultra-thin blades and precise grind angles make for outstanding cutting performance. Every knife is hand-sharpened before it leaves the workshop, ready to use straight out of the box.

Takamura Knives FAQs

How do you care for and maintain Takamura knives?

Takamura knives reward proper care with lasting performance. Hand-wash and dry each knife immediately after use, as the dishwasher's heat, moisture and abrasion can damage both the blade and handle. Store them on a magnetic knife strip or in a knife block to protect the edge and always use a wooden or soft rubber or synthetic cutting board. Glass or stone surfaces will quickly dull a razor-sharp edge.

For sharpening, use a quality sharpening stone or whetsone (1000–3000 grit for regular maintenance, 6000+ for finishing). Chromax knives are forgiving and straightforward to sharpen at home, while R2 knives benefit from occasional professional sharpening, given their extreme hardness. A ceramic honing rod can help realign the edge in a pinch, but to truly restore an edge, sharpen on whetstones.  With the right care, a Takamura knife will hold its edge far longer than most knives on the market.

Are Takamura knives handmade?
